Life Choices of Memphis...offering life and hope
In 1986, with little more than a telephone and a desk, Life Choices began its ministry to women facing the prospect of an unplanned pregnancy and the life-impacting decisions a young mother might face in making a plan for her life and the life of her unborn child. We have heard the story many times of how a young woman called - they weren't even sure how she got the number - and simply said, "I think I'm pregnant. Can you help me?"
That first phone call began a relationship between Life Choices and thousands of women - and their partners, in many cases - who are all basically asking the same question our first client asked so long ago. The number one priority for Life Choices, even unto this present day, is to tell women the truth, answering their questions with the respect and dignity we feel all women deserve - regardless of their ultimate decision.
In 1987, Life Choices became a state-licensed child-placing agency and has seen more than 100 women complete adoption plans for their infants. We hold positions of leadership in the West Tennessee Council of Adoption Agencies and the Adoption Center of the Mid-South. One of our adoption clients recently wrote, "Yes, sometimes when I think about my daughter, I'm sad. But then I think of how happy she is and how faithful the family is in sending pictures and letters, and I know I made the right decision for both of us."
In 2007, Life Choices added medical services including diagnostic pregnancy testing and limited obstetrical ultrasound under the supervision of a licensed medical doctor and on-site registered nursing staff.
For women who choose to make a life-affirming decision in their pregnancy, we offer counseling to help her make a positive plan for both she and her baby. What about women who choose to end their pregnancy? If later, they experience issues that they feel are related to that decision, we offer post-abortion counseling by our trained staff of counselors.
Life Choices is committed to provide a non-judgmental and Christ-like environment designed to educate and empower women to make life-affirming decisions. The vision of Life Choices is to strategically change the procurement of abortions by providing intervention, education and support services for women and families in crisis and by raising awareness in the community as to the obstacles we face and the opportunities available in addressing pro-life issues.
A young lady, legally underage for abortion, came to Life Choices to confirm her suspicion that she was pregnant. Her parents, who were in favor of abortion, came with her. Her pregnancy test was positive and an ultrasound was offered. She accepted. Then the most awesome miracle happened. She met her 19-week old unborn child for the first time! With tears, we asked for her parents to join her in the ultrasound room. In the beat of a heart - their grandchild's heart - the parents of this young woman accepted their role as grand parents to this unborn child. Not 'pregnancy tissue', not the 'result of conception', but their very own flesh and blood. On that day, in just a few moments, not only was the life of the baby saved, his mom and grandparent's lives were also saved from the tragedy that would have resulted from a decision to abort.
Life Choices' newest medical clinic and counseling center is located
in midtown Memphis' trendy Cooper-Young historical district just minutes from three abortion clinics, an area we call "the abortion triangle".

This is just the latest endeavor in the exciting opportunities Life Choices is experiencing through God's provision. With thousands of women seeking answers during an unexpected pregnancy, Life Choices is committed to making free and confidential services available to all women. The Cooper-Young center will allow Life Choices to dramatically increase our programs and services to women from the core of our city. As we continue to grow, we always remember our very first client's pleading voice, which has been echoed by thousands of young women, "I think I'm pregnant. Can you help me?" Only eternity will tell us how many lives were changed because Life Choices was there to answer the call.
