Keeping Health Care Pro-Life

As the Obama Administration implements the Affordable Care Act, Americans United for Life has been active in monitoring the regulations that will govern the choices all Americans will be forced to make when buying health care. Guidelines for "Preventive" care for women have been especially controversial because they have been written to force nearly all Americans to pay for abortion-inducing drugs as part of the health insurance mandate.
 
AUL has twice submitted comments to the Department of Health and Human Services and testified at each of the Institute of Medicine's three public meetings to protect the conscience rights of Americans who may be forced to pay for abortion-inducing drugs. And last week, 28 U.S. Senators added their voices to the debate, asking that Health and Human Services address their concerns with a report entitled, "Clinical Preventive Services for Women: Closing the Gaps." The Senators wrote that they are concerned "with the lack of due consideration given to the adverse impact that recommendations would have on our core constitutional value of religious liberty."

INVESTIGATING PLANNED PARENTHOOD

Americans United for Life released a groundbreaking analysis of the nation's largest abortion business, following years of AUL legal team research poring over more than 20 years of Planned Parenthood records, law enforcement reports, and other materials. The report details evidence of systemic financial irregularities within the abortion giant - which receives more than $363 million in taxpayer funding each year. "Americans United for Life is calling for a Congressional investigation and hearings into the nation's largest abortion provider," said AUL President and CEO, Dr. Charmaine Yoest.
 
A number of states have begun the process of defunding abortion providers, though the efforts in Indiana have garnered the most media attention. Those states include New Jersey, Kansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, Texas, and Ohio.
 
"It is time to find out what happens behind Planned Parenthood's closed doors and to receive full accounting for the funds taken from American taxpayers to support the abortion industry," said Dr. Yoest.

Day of Prayer for Our Nation - AUGUST 6, 2011

The American Family Association is encouraging Christians across the nation to join in a national day of prayer for our country. Gov. Rick Perry of Texas has proclaimed Saturday, August 6, 2011 as a Day of Prayer and Fasting to seek God's guidance and wisdom in addressing the challenges that face our communities, states, and nation. He has invited governors across the country to join him and participate in The Response, a non-denominational, apolitical, Christian prayer meeting hosted by the American Family Association at 62,000 seat Reliant Stadium in Houston.
 
In sponsoring The Response, AFA is encouraging churches to organize and promote a local The Response prayer event in their communities. Please mark your calendar for August 6, 2011 and join us this day in prayer for our nation and our world.

URGENT NEWS FROM AMERICANS UNITED FOR LIFE

"The state of Indiana recently passed a new pro-life law cutting off much of Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers' federal and state funding. This new law closes a troubling loophole to make sure taxpayer dollars are no longer allowed to support operational costs for abortions.
 
BUT there is also bad news: Planned Parenthood, with the tacit support of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, is suing the State of Indiana! Planned Parenthood will stop at nothing to take your tax money. Their agenda? To expand abortion access and bring its empire of abortion mills into strip malls and neighborhoods near you."
 
Indiana is taking a firm stand against this outrageous catastrophe in our nation. Let's stand alongside them in support with our fervent prayers. What happens in one state usually follows for others.

Take Action Now!

The House of Representatives will begin voting this next week on H.R. 3, "The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act". H.R. 3 will prevent the use of federal taxpayer funds to pay for elective abortions. If H.R. 3 does not become law, we as taxpayers may soon be paying for 675,000 abortions every year!
 
If This Bill Becomes Law:

  • Funding will be prohibited for elective abortion coverage through any program in the Department of Health and Human Services.
  • It will prevent funding for abortion as a method of family planning overseas.
  • It will prohibit funding for elective abortion coverage for federal employees.
  • It will prevent taxpayer funded abortions in Washington, D.C.
  • It will protect conscience-driven health care providers from being forced by the government to participate in abortions.

 
H.R. 3 is necessary to override the abortion funding provisions which are found in ObamaCare.

A vote in the Senate on defunding Planned Parenthood is imminent and could come at any time. Senators will have to choose a side. Will America stand for Life? Or will they cast their vote to continue spending hundreds of millions of our tax dollars to keep the world's largest abortion provider fully funded? Planned Parenthood's empire is energized by $363 million in taxpayer money that Congress sends to them each year!
 
Those supporting PP devote all their time, energy, and resources to ensure that the abortion industry stays strong. Why do we as Christians not do the same for life and the Giver of Life, Jesus Christ? Do we just not want to get involved, do we assume others will do the job, are we lazy and satisfied with our own personal lives? Maybe we should ask ourselves - what does God require? This is not just about the pro-life movement. This is about sin in our world, nation, and individual lives that has so taken us captive. May God grant repentance to us. May we as Christians plead for mercy, pray with humility, and take an active role in our every day lives to spread the precious message of LIFE, eternal life.

Abortion giant Planned Parenthood just released its 2008-2009 annual report, and the stats are startling and saddening.

  • Planned Parenthood received $363 million in government grants and contracts, our tax dollars, from 2008 to 2009 alone.
  • During this same time period, Planned Parenthood destroyed the lives of 324,008 unborn babies and severely wounded their mothers.
  • They received the most federal dollars ever and this resulted in the most unborn babies ever lost by abortion through Planned Parenthood.

 
Let's renew our commitment in 2011 for the Sanctity of Human Life and the salvation for souls of men and women. We must not stop praying and working for life and life eternal.
 
"No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act"
Speaker of the House John Boehner and Rep. Chris Smith just introduced H.R. 3, the "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act", which will permanently prohibit taxpayer funding of abortion across all federal programs. If this bill is signed into law, you will never again be troubled by the thought that some of the money you send to the IRS is being siphoned off to kill babies in the womb. Have you heard about Planned Parenthood's "Choice on Earth" holiday campaign? PP President, Cecile Richards, boasts that they are selling gift certificates for abortions as "stocking stuffers". What a disgusting mockery of Christmas and "Peace on Earth". Does this appall you as much as it does me? It actually made me physically sick when I heard, but I am not surprised. The enemy is out to destroy life, and our Savior Jesus Christ warns of this in John 10:10, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
 
I am sure that everyone by now knows that hundreds of millions of our tax dollars supply nearly one-third of Planned Parenthood's funding. Last year PP performed hundreds of thousands of abortions, deaths of precious children - our children.
 
What more will it take for this nation to turn to God? I personally have decided to be one of the Christians that will commit to pray - not just casual prayer but intercessory prayer - not just for the nation but for individuals. Genesis tells us that God saved Lot from death when He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. Do you know why? Genesis 19:29 states, "So when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he remembered Abraham, and he brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived." Abraham had approached God earlier and asked time and time again that he not destroy the whole city but that he save the lives of the righteous that were found there. So God was faithful to remember the bold requests from Abraham.
 
May we as His children remain righteous before Him even in the midst of the tragic sins that capture our nation. My prayer is for victory, though, victory for the hearts of men. Then our nation will turn once again to God.

Watching the "Lame Duck" Congress

Praise God American voters returned conservatives to control of the U.S. House of Representatives! However, the newly elected do not take office until January.  The current Congress is still capable of much mischief. We must make sure that the "lame-duck" Congress does not place additional obstacles in the path of repeal, and that instead, efforts are begun to defund this gross expansion of federal power.

The Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act of 2010 (H.R. 5276)

  • The bill ensures that women who are seeking an abortion are made aware that a child may be able to feel pain at 20 weeks of gestation and allows a woman to choose anesthesia for the baby during procedure.
  • A Fetal Pain bill recently became law in Nebraska drawing attention to this issue.

 
Department of Defense Authorization bill

  • Contains a provision to allow elective abortion to be performed on domestic and international military bases.
  • Drastic change from current military protocol
  • If permitted, your tax dollars will be used to pay abortion practitioners, purchase abortion equipment, and fund facilities where abortions are performed.
  • If permitted, military hospitals will become abortion mills.
  • Medical facilities on military bases and anywhere else in the world are meant to be places of healing not death.

$160 million taxpayer dollars have just been appropriated from the federal government to the state of Pennsylvania in order to set up a high-risk insurance government pool program, a new program created by the health care bill that would cover abortion on-demand.
 
Marjorie Dannenfelser, President, Susan B. Anthony List states, "The Obama Administration has not tried to hide their radical abortion agenda and are now moving into action-starting with full coverage for all legal abortion in Pennsylvania."
