THE IMPACT OF THE 2008 ELECTION ON LIFE IN AMERICA AND THE WORLD

The election of Barack Obama means that America will now have as President the most radically pro-abortion candidate ever to seek the highest office in the land. Obama's record on abortion is crystal clear:

 

*As stated previously, he supports the Freedom of Choice Act.

*Obama opposes recent efforts by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to protect physicians from discrimination for following their consciences against referring for, or participating in, abortion.

*Obama adamantly states that he will appoint to the U.S. Supreme Court only those justices that support Roe V. Wade stating:  "I believe, however, that a judicial nominee with a history of undermining settled law like Roe v. Wade deserves greater scrutiny.  That is why in the past I have opposed the nominations of Supreme Court Justices Roberts and Alito."

*Obama supports unrestricted embryonic stem-cell research and has stated that early in his term he will issue an executive order that cancels the order from President Bush, which banned federal funding of such research.

*Obama has announced that he will overturn by executive order longstanding federal policies that prohibit the performance of abortions on federal military property and that prohibit federal funds from going to international family planning agencies that promote abortion as a method of family planning, i.e. Planned Parenthood.

 

Christians, now more than ever, let us pray that God will send laborers into the fields to share Jesus Christ and His wonderful gift of life!  Let us have boldness in speaking the truth and courage as we stand firm in the face of opposition. Our God is still sovereign and always has been! His ways are perfect and His judgement is righteous. OBAMA SEEKS TO TAKE AWAY RELIGIOUS RIGHTS OF DOCTORS AND HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS WHO REFUSE TO PERFORM ABORTIONS.

According to several news agencies, President Barack Obama will rescind the "conscience rule" that protects health workers who refuse to participate in abortions or other medical procedures that go against their moral and religious beliefs.  If the rule is rescinded, doctors, nurses and other health care workers could lose their jobs or be punished professionally for adhering to their sincerely held religious convictions.  Obama's proposal would take away their religious freedom.

 

The current rule empowers federal health officials to cut off federal funding for any state or local government, hospital, clinic, health plan, doctor's office or other entity if it does not accommodate employees who exercise their right of conscience.  It applies to more than 584,000 health care facilities. 

 

According to The Washington Post, Obama administration officials stressed that the proposal will be subject to 30 days of public comment.

Life Choices' Response to the Killing of George Tiller

All of us at Life Choices are shocked and saddened to hear of the killing of George Tiller.  In the strongest possible terms, we condemn this act.  Violence is not the answer to resolve differing opinions on abortion.  Every life is sacred and should be protected without regard of their views or actions.  Life Choices provides non-violent solutions to women who are facing unwanted pregnancies.  Our prayers are with the Tiller family during this difficult time.

URGENT ACTION ALERT FROM THE AUL -The Legislative Arm of Americans United for Life

The U.S. House is beginning to debate HR 2410, the Foreign Relations Reauthorization Act, which would dramatically expand the ability of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to promote abortion in foreign countries and undermine pro-life laws around the world.

 

Section 334 establishes a new "Office for Global Women's Issues" headed by an ambassador-at-large in the Office of the Secretary of State.  This legislation directs that this office coordinate and support efforts regarding "women's empowerment" around the world.

 

On April 22, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton testified before the Foreign Affairs Committee that this administration "will protect the rights of women, including their rights to reproductive health care" including access to abortion.

 

Congressman Chris Smith offered an amendment to prevent this new office from promoting abortion around the world, but that amendment is not being allowed to come up for a vote.

 

Please contact your Representative today and ask that they vote against HR 2410.

As members of Congress begin their recess, President Obama has made it clear that the first issue they'll take up when they come back in September will be health care reform.  Americans United for Life has created a new Web site featuring their legal team's expert analysis on the health care reform plans currently in the House and Senate.  Learn how these plans would mandate taxpayer-funded abortions, deprive medical providers of their rights of conscience, and possibly result in denial of care for the elderly and the disabled.  There's also a petition so that you can add your voice to the thousands urging the President to keep abortion out of health care.

FYI

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is expediting his own version of the health reform plan - that still includes taxpayer funding of abortion - to the Senate floor as soon as next week. Repeated efforts to ensure that our tax dollars are not used for abortions have been rejected and the latest version of the bill guarantees access to abortion coverage through the state health care exchanges that would be created through the current plan.

 

It's imperative that we send a strong message to the Senate that pro-life Americans are not going to support any version of health care reform that threatens the preborn.

Speaker Pelosi has just revealed the new pro-abortion House bill.  Unfortunately, the new health care bill explicitly allows federal funding of abortion and permits federal subsidies to go to private insurance plans that cover abortion. The bill also ensures that at least one health insurance plan in every area of the country covers abortion.

 

It has been claimed by Planned Parenthood Action Fund President Cecile Richards that "more than 18,000 phone calls" were made by PP supporters to Congress.

A VICTORY WON BUT THE BATTLE IS NOT OVER!  KEEP PRAYING!

Praise to the Lord.  The pro-life Democrats and Republicans took a stand for the sanctity of life by passing the Stupak-Ellsworth-Pitts-Kaptur-Dahikemper-Lipinski-Smith Amendment on a vote of 240 to 194.  This amendment prohibits the use of federal dollars to fund abortion in health care.

 

The battle will move now to the Senate.  Let us continue our prayers that pro-life protections remain in the final health care bill.  Please continue to voice your concerns to your leaders as well as to thank them for their faithful stands for life.
